Relevance
|
58K Golgi protein antibodies are excellent for use as markers for the Golgi complex. The 58K Golgi protein has been identified as being FTCD, a bifunctional enzyme that channels 1-carbon units from formiminoglutamate, a metabolite of the histidine degradation pathway, to the folate pool. Defects in FTCD are the cause of glutamate formiminotransferase deficiency; also known as formiminoglutamicaciduria (FIGLU-uria). It is an autosomal recessive disorder. Features of a severe phenotype, include elevated levels of formiminoglutamate (FIGLU) in the urine in response to histidine administration, megaloblastic anemia, and mental retardation. Features of a mild phenotype include high urinary excretion of FIGLU in the absence of histidine administration, mild developmental delay, and no hematological abnormalities.

Immunocytochemistry/ Immunofluorescence - 58K Golgi protein antibody [58K-9] - Golgi Marker (ab6284)
HeLa cells fixed and permeabilized with 3% PFA plus 0.05% Triton X-100 in PBS. Stained with anti-58K Golgi protein monoclonal antibody (1:50)followed by anti-Mouse IgG conjugated to Cy3 (1:100). This picture was kindly supplied as part of the review submitted by Sarah Coleman.

Immunocytochemistry/ Immunofluorescence - 58K Golgi protein antibody [58K-9] - Golgi Marker (ab6284)
Cells were grown on coverslips, fixed with 70% methanol, and permeabilized with 0.5% Triton X-100 then double labeled by incubation with a rabbit polyclonal antibody against HE4 (a secreted ovarian cancer biomarker) and monoclonal antibodies against the 58K Golgi protein formiminotransferase cyclodeaminase (1:150) in PBS with 5% goat serum. After washing, appropriate species-specific, fluorochrome-conjugated secondary antibodies were applied.
This image was kindly supplied as part of the review submitted by Ronny Drapkin.
