Proteins and Peptides

Peptide

Synthetic peptide derived from within residues 350 to the C-terminus of Human ABH1.This peptide was used as an immunogen for ab18525 - ABH1 antibody.

Research areas

Chromatin and Nuclear Signaling >> DNA / RNA >> DNA Damage & Repair >> Direct Chemical Reversal

Relevance

ABH1 (also known as ALKB) is a homolog to the E. coli alkB gene product. The E. coli alkB protein is part of the adaptive response mechanism of DNA alkylation damage repair. Repair of DNA damage is essential for maintaining genome integrity, and repair deficiencies in mammals are associated with cancer, neurological disease and developmental defects. Alkylation damage in DNA is repaired by at least three different mechanisms, including damage reversal by oxidative demethylation of 1-methyladenine and 3-methylcytosine by E. coli AlkB.
