Question 1

Monday 12-March-2012

I bought the Anti-ACAT2 antibody (ab66259) last year. Now I want to know the function of the immunogen of ACAT2, amino acid sequence of SILCDGLTDAFHNCHMGITAENVAKKWQVSREDQDKVAVL SQNRTENAQK.Is itthe position who conjugates and catalytes the substrate? Or is it just a position having no function? Could you send me an Email and tell me it, please? Thank you very much!

ANSWER:

Thank you for your inquiry.

This region of ACAT2 was most likely chosen because it is unique and doesn't overlap with ACAT1 to minimize cross-reactivity with this similar protein. The sequence for the immunogen is from a.a. 145 - 194. There isn't anything terribly functional about this sequence, according to SwissProt, but you may want to look into the literature more closely.
