Arx1 has recently been shown to be a nuclear export receptor for the 60S ribosomal subunit, in yeast. It is a nucleo cytoplasmic shuttling protein that is that is associated with pre-60S particles. It is probably involved in the proper assembly of pre ribosomal particles during the biogenesis of the 60S ribosomal subunit and accompanies the pre-60S particles to the cytoplasm and interacts directly with REI1. Arx1 does not have any peptidase activity.
