- Product overview
Albumin is a serum hepatic protein, the most abundant protein in serum and contributes to the maintenance of oncotic pressure as well as to transport of hydrophobic molecules. Serum albumin level has been linked in clinical practice to several diseases. Low albumin levels can suggest liver, kidney disease, inflammation, shock, and malnutrition. On the other hand, high albumin levels usually reflect dehydration.
ab108790 Albumin Rat ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit employs a quantitative competitive enzyme immunoassay technique that measures rat plasma and serum albumin in less than 2 hours. A polyclonal antibody specific for rat albumin has been pre-coated onto a 96-well microplate with removable strips. Albumin in standards and samples is competed with a biotinylated Albumin sandwiched by the immobilized antibody and streptavidin-peroxidase conjugate. All unbound material is then washed away and a peroxidase enzyme substrate is added. The colour development is stopped and the intensity of the colour is measured.
