Relevance 

BANP is a protein that interacts with CAF1, a component of the general transcription multisubunit complex. It is thought that BANP is involved in negative control of the cell cycle. Studies with mouse homolog suggest that this protein may also interact with a specific nuclear matrix/scaffold-associated region (MAR).

BANP is a DNA binding protein that is reported to be a tumor suppressor and transcriptional repressor. BANP has also been shown to interact with p53 and modulate its activity.

Transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene.
