CBS (cystathionine-beta-synthase) catalyzes the conversion of homocysteine to cystathionine, the first step in the transsulfuration pathway. Cystathionine beta-synthase deficiency causes homocystinuria, a metabolic disorder producing increased urinary homocystine and methionine.
