    Functional Studies
  • Application notesFuncS: 1 unit/assay for analyzing caspase activity is recommended.
One unit of the recombinant caspase-5 is the enzyme activity that cleaves 1 nmol of the caspase substrate WEHD-pNA (pNA: pnitroanaline) per hour at 37oC, in a reaction solution containing 50 mM Hepes, pH 7.2, 50 mM NaCl, 0.1% Chaps, 10 mM EDTA, 5% Glycerol, and 10 mM DTT.
SDS-PAGE: Use at an assay dependent dilution.

Not yet tested in other applications.
Optimal dilutions/concentrations should be determined by the end user.

  • FunctionMediator of programmed cell death (apoptosis).
  • Tissue specificityExpressed in barely detectable amounts in most tissues except brain, highest levels being found in lung, liver and skeletal muscle.
  • Sequence similaritiesBelongs to the peptidase C14A family.
    Contains 1 CARD domain.
  • Post-translational
    modifications
The two subunits are derived from the precursor sequence by an autocatalytic mechanism.
