Question 2

Thursday 06-October-2011

Dear Madame or Sir,

I would like to ask for a quotation for the following antibodies, please:

anti-desmin antibody ab6322

anti-desmin antibody ab15200

And I would like to seek your advices on choosing between these two antibodies. In  specific, I am going to test on human hemaetopoitic progenitor cells. Do you happen to have some information on which one of them will give a more specific staining in this case? (Immunogen for ab15200 polyclonal is synthetic peptide from human, while that for ab6322 monoclonal is pig full length native protein).

Any information will be very appreciated.

Thank you very much for your attention and best regards,

ANSWER:

Thank you for your enquiry whichi has been forwarded to the scientific support team.

I would like to reassure you that our antibodies have all been tested successfully and would be covered by our guarantee in the applications and species listed on the datasheets. Therefore, any Desmin antibody tested in the species and application you are using should be suitable and guaranteed for your experiments.

I am sorry to confirm these antibodies have not specifically been tested in human hemaetopoitic progenitor cells. However, I am pleased to let you know that both ab15200 and ab6322 have been tested on human samples and would be covered by our guarantee for use on samples from this species. I can recommend to check the datasheet to view a list of the tested applications to ensure that the application you are using is also tested and guaranteed. The price of products can be found at the top of the datasheet, please ensure to select Singapore from the country selection at the top right hand corner of the page to see the correct price.

ab6322 tested in: ICC/IF, IHC-FoFr, IHC-Fr, IHC-P, WB

Price USD $365.00

Although we produce many in-house antibodies, we obtain other antibodies from a wide range of sources. Therefore, comparison experiments will not often have been done. If you wish to be more certain, I can suggest choosing the antibody that has been best characterized. By this I mean the antibody that has been tested in the most applications and has the most data available (on the datasheet).

I hope this will be helpful to you. Should you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Question 3

Tuesday 04-October-2011

Hello,

We have recently received a consignment of antibodies from you on Friday. Unfortunately, I was not informed of this delivery until today and therefore the antibodies have been left at room temperature over the weekend. I have now placed the antibodies immediately into 4C for storage but am wondering if these antibodies would still be viable after being left at room temperature all this time. These antibodies are unconjugated antibodies (both monoclonal and polyclonal). I would appreciate if you can let me know as soon as possible. Many thanks.

Regards,

ANSWER:

Thank you for contacting us.

Abcam takes product quality seriously and we recently undertook an in-depth study examining storage conditions and antibody performance. After over 13,000 individual ELISA experiments, we have determined that storing our antibodies at various temperatures of up to 45°C for 1 week does not impact their activity. I would be happy to share a summary of our findings with you; please let me know if you would like to see this.

As a precautionary measure only, we ship our antibodies in packaging with ice packs to provide extra temperature stability in transit. The ice pack may be thawed or even at room temperature when you receive it; please be assured that this is normal and that your product is safe to use. Once you have received the vial, please follow the long-term storage instructions on the datasheet.

Our Abpromise to you is that, should our product not work as stated on the datasheet, we will resolve the issue to your satisfaction, either with helpful advice to optimize your experiment or a replacement or refund of the product. Please contact our knowledgeable Scientific Support staff should you experience any issues while using our products. Contact information can be found at:

I hope this information is helpful to you. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any more advice or information.

PS: Attached is the tested data of few of our antibodies.

Question 4

Monday 08-August-2005

Can you please tell me what a good negative control would be for use of this product with IHC?

ANSWER:

That is a good question. It is really hard to find any tissue in whole is negative for desmin because blood vessels have smooth muscles, which are positive. So we have to use some epithelial cells like skin squamous cells as negative control. A specific antibody in IHC means it is positive in cells which are supposed to be positive and negative in cells which are supposed to be negative.
