Target

Relevance

Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) is a glycoprotein hormone of 35kD which is involved in the maturation of ovarian follicles and stimulation of estrogen secretion. In males, FSH stimulates the secretion of testosterone. It is a heterodimer with an alpha chain shared by thyrotropin, lutropin, follitropin and gonadotropin, and a unique beta chain. It is expressed in gonadotropic cells of the pituitary. FSH is used in the treatment of infertility in women with proven hypopituitarism and in superovulation treatment for assisted conception. In men it is used for the stimulation of spermatogenesis.
