GSTO2 is an omega class glutathione transferase. Omega class glutathione transferases have poor activity with common GST substrates, but exhibit novel glutathione-dependent thioltransferase, dehydroascorbate reductase, and monomethylarsonate reductase activities, and they modulate Ca(2+) release by ryanodine receptors.
GSTO2 is expressed in a range of tissues, including the liver, kidney, skeletal muscle and prostate. The strongest expression is in the testis.
