Question 1

Thursday 03-June-2010

Dear Tech Support One of our customers is interested in monoclonal anti-human IFITM2 antibody (ab88415). Due to high homology of IFITM2 to its homologue, IFITM3, we would like to know whether your antibody specifically recognizes the IFITM2 protein, and not the IFITM3.

It is of importance for them to obtain a specific recognition of the IFITM2 protein. I have noticed that your immunogen consists of 1-60 amino acids of the IFITM2, and according to the BLAST program, there is high homology between the IFITM2 and IFITM3 in this region.

this lab have a system that allows them to examine the specificity of the antibody. Thus, if you had not examined the specificity, they are able to do so. Please advise

ANSWER:

Thank you for your message.

I can confirm that the immunogen sequence for has 95% alignment to the IFITM3 protein. I am sorry it is therefore likely to detect IFITM3 aswell, although this has not been tested in the laboraory.

I am sorry this is not better news for you on this occasion. Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
