Target

Function

Potassium channel subunit. Modulates channel activity and reduces the ion flow.

Tissue specificity

Detected in most tissues, but not in peripheral blood lymphocytes. The highest levels of expression are in lung.

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the potassium channel family. S (TC 1.A.1.2) subfamily. Kv9.3/KCNS3 sub-subfamily.

Domain

The segment S4 is probably the voltage-sensor and is characterized by a series of positively charged amino acids at every third position.

Cellular localization

Cell membrane. May not reach the plasma membrane but remain in an intracellular compartment in the absence of KCNB1.

Predicted band size : 56 kDa
Observed band size : 56,75 kDa (why is the actual band size different from the predicted?)
Additional bands at : 25 kDa. We are unsure as to the identity of these extra bands.

E coli-derived fusion protein (1), 293 cell extract (2), and Hela cell extract (3) as test antigen. Affinity-purified IgY dilution: 1:2000 (or 1:500 for cell extract), Goat anti-IgY-HRP dilution: 1:1000. Colorimetric method for signal development.
