Specificity 

The antibody is specific to MMP3 (Stromelysin 1). It binds to both the reduced (the pro form as well as active forms) and the non reduced proteins. The antibody does not cross react with the other Stromelysin forms (Stromelysin 2 and Stromelysin 3), nor to the other MMP family members (MMP1, MMP2, MMP9, etc.).

Recommended dilutions
WB: 1/1000 - 1/5000. Detects a band of approximately 59 and 57 kDa (predicted molecular weight: 54 kDa). Detects bands of approximately 59 and 57 kDa (the pro form) when used against the reduced protein. (Predicted molecular weight: 54 kDa). Dilution optimised using Chromogenic detection. Not yet tested in other applications. Optimal dilutions/concentrations should be determined by the end user.

Relevance 

Proteins of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family are involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes, such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in disease processes, such as arthritis and metastasis. Most MMP's are secreted as inactive proproteins which are activated when cleaved by extracellular proteinases. MMP3 is an enzyme which degrades fibronectin, laminin, collagens III, IV, IX, and X, and cartilage proteoglycans. The enzyme is thought to be involved in wound repair, progression of atherosclerosis, and tumor initiation. MMP3 is reported to be implicated in rheumatoid arthritis and some forms of cancer.
