Specificity

Ab11149 binds to the human acetylcholine receptor - alpha subunit. Binds weakly to a64-78. Inhibits binding of many myasthenia gravis sera to the human acetylcholine receptor.
Ascites shows some reactivity with fibroblasts and tonsilar epithelial cells.

After binding acetylcholine, Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor alpha 1 responds by an extensive change in conformation that affects all subunits and leads to opening of an ion conducting channel across the plasma membrane. Isoform 1 is only expressed in skeletal muscle whereas isoform 2 is constitutively expressed in skeletal muscle, brain, heart, kidney, liver, lung and thymus
