Relevance
OIP5 (Opa-interacting protein 5) was originally identified as a protein that binds the Neisseria gonorrhoeae outer membrane protein OpaP. It has subsequently been identied as a cancer-testis specific gene in gastric cancer, and it has been shown to be essential for centromere/kinetochore structure and function. It has a role in centromere recruitment of newly synthesized CENP-A.
