I was looking for a rat osteopontin neutralizing antibody and I am having difficulty obtaining one. However, mouse and rat sequences are usually very close and the mouse osteopontinneutralizing antibody AB11503 might also work for rat osteopontin. I was wondering if you have any information which utilised this antibody in a rat application and if not could it be used for rat osteopontin?

Unfortunately we have not tested this antibody with rat species. There is a homology percentage of 80% between the mouse and the rat protein. Although it is not very likely the antibody may recognise the protein from rat, it is not either inconceivable.

I am afraid you would have to optimise the method for this particular species, as we don’t have any data to share.

I am looking for an OPN monoclonal antibody that will react against mouse for use in IHC. OPN antibody ab11503 is indicated for use in Western blot, ELISA, and Neutralising only. Is there a reason this antibody has not been tried in IHC? Is it likely to work for IHC? Are there any guarantees if I purchase this product in case it does not work for my purposes? ab11503 Osteopontin antibody has only been tested by ELISA, Neutralisation and western blotting. That is not to say that it will not work by immunhistochemistry; just that it is yet to be tested.

Searching our on line catalogue I found an antibody against this target that has been shown to work by IHC-P; albeit with only a predicted reactivity against mouse based on sequence similarity of the immunogen. The antibody is:

ab14175 Osteopontin antibody ELISA, IHC-P.

(ab11503,8448) Which ab is better for mouse WB? Is ab11972 good for mouse WB and IF? What is the availability?

I would recommend ab11503 as there is not much homology between ab8448 and mouse osteopontin. Also, ab11972 is predicted to react with mouse in WB and IF but we have never tested it in mouse.
