Relevance

The paraoxonase (PON) gene family in humans has three members, PON1, PON2, and PON3, aligned next to each other on the long arm of chromosome
7q21.3-22.1. PON1 is synthesized primarily in the liver, and a portion is secreted into the plasma, where it is associated with high density lipoproteins (HDL). PON1 hydrolyzes the active metabolites of several other organophosphorus insecticides (e.g., chlorpyrifos oxon, diazoxon), as well as nerve agents such as sarin, soman and VX (lethal nerve agent). The PON1 polymorphism may be responsible for neurodegeneration and is considered to be an independent risk factor for Parkinson’s disease.

Immunohistochemistry (Frozen sections) - PON1 antibody (ab40775)

ab40775 staining of PON1 in rat liver sections. Frozen rat liver sections were fixed with PFA and incubated for 18 hours with ab40775 (1/1000). A rabbit IgG antibody (ab60314) was used as a secondary. The right panel shows background staining obtained in absence of primary antibody, while the left panel shows the staining obtained in the presence of ab40775.
