Relevance
|
This gene belongs to the RING finger family, members of which encode proteins characterized by a RING domain, a zinc binding motif related to the zinc finger domain. The gene product can bind DNA and can act as a transcriptional repressor. It is associated with the multimeric polycomb group protein complex. The gene product interacts with the polycomb group proteins BMI1, EDR1, and CBX4, and colocalizes with these proteins in large nuclear domains. It interacts with the CBX4 protein via its glycine rich C terminal domain. The gene maps to the HLA class II region, where it is contiguous with the RING finger genes FABGL and HKE4.

Predicted band size : 42,39 kDa Observed band size : 39 kDa (why is the actual band size different from the predicted?)
ab32644 detects isoform 2 of RING1 which is predicted to be ~39 kDa. Theoretically this antibody should also detect isoform 1 of RING1 (which we see in brain lysate using ab32807) as the epitope for ab32644 is predicted to be present in isoform 1. This is not the case and we suspect that this may be due to either an undocumented modification or variable splicing of the C-terminus of isoform 1 that removes the epitope that ab32644 recognises.
We recommend the use of ab32807 for detection of Isoform 1 of RING1.
