RRAS (Related RAS viral (r-ras) oncogene homolog) is a member of the Ras superfamily of small GTPases which regulate cell proliferation, spreading, migration, apoptosis, and malignant transformation by binding to several protein effectors. RLIP76 (RalBP1) has recently been identified as a novel RRas effector. RLIP76 is required for adhesion induced Rac activation and the resulting cell spreading and migration, as well as for the ability of RRas to enhance these functions. RRAS does not activate MAP kinase pathways and is only weakly oncogenic.
