Relevance
|
Rad51L1, also known as Rad51B, plays a role in the homologous recombination of double-stranded DNA breaks arising during DNA replication or resulting from exposure to DNA damaging agents. Rad51L1 may promote the assembly of Rad51 nucleoprotein filaments at these sites. the Rad51L1/Rad51C heterodimer exhibits single stranded DNA-dependent ATPase activity. Rad51L1 is a component of the BCDX2 complex, which also contains Rad51C, Rad51D and XRCC2. The BCDX2 complex binds to single-stranded DNA, single-stranded gaps in duplex DNA, and to nicks in duplex DNA. Overexpression of Rad51L1 causes G1 delay and apoptosis, consistent with its role in sensing DNA damage.
