Relevance

The product of this gene is a mitogen induced GTPase activating protein (GAP). It exhibits a specific GAP activity for Ras-related regulatory proteins Rap1 and Rap2, but not for Ran or other small GTPases. This protein may also hamper mitogen-induced cell cycle progression when abnormally or prematurely expressed. It is localized to the perinuclear region. Two alternatively spliced variants encoding the same isoform have been characterized to date.

Western blot - SIPA1 antibody (ab10162)
Predicted band size : 130 kDa
20µg of B cell lysate from different patients with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (a B cell malignancy) were separated by SDS-PAGE and blotted with ab10162 for 1 hour (1/500 dilution). The levels of SIPA1 in patients with CLL was compared to that in normal B cells (end lane). Spa-1 is the Rap1-GAP of lympocytes, and therefore all the samples should all possess Spa-1. Equal protein was loaded in each lane. A band of 130kDa was detected in all samples (arrow). Non-specific bands of ~ 60kDa were also detected. This image was submitted as part of a review by Kathy Till
