Relevance
|
SIRT7, or sirtuin 7, is a member of the sirtuin family of proteins, which are Class III histone deacetylases. SIRT7 is a putative NAD-dependent deacetylase. It is a nucleolar protein that is associated with active rRNA genes and RNA polymerase I, as well as histones. Overexpression of SIRT7 increases rRNA transcription, while its down-regulation has the opposite effect. The expression of SIRT7 is enriched in metabolically active tissues such as the liver. SIRT7 gene expression is also up-regulated in some thyroid and breast cancers.
