Relevance

The vertebrate SIX genes are homologs of the Drosophila 'sine oculis' (so) gene, which is expressed primarily in the developing visual system of the fly. Members of the SIX gene family encode proteins that are characterized by a divergent DNA-binding homeodomain and an upstream SIX domain, which may be involved both in determining DNA-binding specificity and in mediating protein protein interactions. Genes in the SIX family have been shown to play roles in vertebrate and insect development or have been implicated in maintenance of the differentiated state of tissues.
SIX1 may be involved in limb tendon and ligament development. It is specifically expressed in skeletal muscle. It belongs to the SIX/Sine oculis homeobox family.

Western blot - SIX1 antibody (ab86028)
All lanes : SIX1 antibody (ab86028) at 1/1000 dilution
Lane 1 : An un-induced culture of E. coli Lane 2 : An induced culture of E. coli
Lysates/proteins at 1/5000 dilution per lane.
Secondary Anti-Rabbit IgG HRP at 1/1000 dilution
Predicted band size : 32 kDa Observed band size : 52 kDa (why is the actual band size different from the predicted?) Additional bands at : 40 kDa. We are unsure as to the identity of these extra bands.
Exposure time : 60 minutes
