Question 1

Monday 14-November-2011

Further to my email below, could you also tell me if the following antibody would bind the cell surface of NIH-3T3 cells?   http://www.abcam.com/Sca1-Ly6A-E-antibody-D7-FITC-ab25031.html#ab25031_1.jpg       Good afternoon,   I am looking for FITC and PE-conjugated antibodies to us as positive controls for flow cytometry compensation set-up. I am using NIH-3T3 cells and have found a publication suggesting cell-surface expression of Thy-1. Please could you confirm if the anti-CD90 mAb below would be suitable.   http://www.abcam.com/CD90-Thy1-antibody-FITC-MRC-OX-7-FITC-ab226.html#ab226_1.jpg           Many thanks in advance,

ANSWER:

Thank you for contacting us.

We are happy to help customers find the most suitable products for their research purposes; however we are not specialized in this particular field and do not want to recommend a product that may be unsuitable. We encourage customers to consult the latest literature available through PubMed and other resources in order to find the most up-to-date information about their specific research interests.

I found conflicting information about the expression of CD90 on NIH3T3 cells: No expression or expression of Thy1.2 (CD90.2).

ab226 only recognizes Thy1.1 (CD90.1). I therefore suggest to use ab25672 (Anti-CD90 / Thy1 antibody [G7] (FITC)) which will bind CD90.1 and CD90.2.

I could not find any reliable data on the expression of Ly6 on NIH3T3 cells either, but can confirm that ab25031 will bind to Ly6A.2 and Ly6E.

I am sorry that I could not be more helpful, but I hope that the available literature in this area can provide some clarification. Please do not hesitate to contact us again with other needs or with any questions about our products.
