What was the immunogenic carrier protein for this serotonin antibody?

My question is about anti-serotonin antibody. As you know, serotonin(5-HT)is a very small chemical which is supposed to freely diffuse within cells or organelles. In a standard immunostaining protocol, the sample tissue or cells should be permeabilized after fixation and washed for several times after antibody incubation. My concern is how is it possible that the serotonin remain its position and not be washed out of the cell? How does the anti-serotonin antibody work? It really bothers me.　Thank you!

This antibody label cells expressing serotonin and not serotonin itself. In immunocytochemistry the antibody labels entero-chromaffine (EC) cells in colon. I have attached some publications on the subject should you require extra information.
