Target

Relevance

Synaptobrevins are highly conserved between vertebrates and invertebrates. It is a major constituent of synaptic vesicles and peptidergic secretory granules in all neurons examined so far. In addition, it is present on secretory granules of neuroendocrine cells. Synaptobrevins, Syntaxins, and the 25 kDa synaptosomal associated protein SNAP25 are the main components of a protein complex involved in the docking and/or fusion of synaptic vesicles with the presynaptic membrane.

Cellular localization

Cytoplasmic vesicle › secretory vesicle › synaptic vesicle membrane. Single-pass type IV membrane protein. Cell junction > synapse > synaptosome. Isoform 3 is found in mitochondria, mitochondrial outer membrane.
