Specificity 

Recognises >90% thymocytes and 40-45% mesenteric lymph node cells. There is little evidence of B cell activity. Originally thought to recognise rabbit CD5 (Kotani et al., 1993) but does not bind to rabbit CD5 transfectants. Known rabbit CD5 antibodies also show binding to most B lymphocytes, which are not labelled by this clone.

Recommended dilutions
Flow Cyt: Neat. Use 10µl to label 10⁶ cells in 100µl.
IHC-Fr: Neat.
IP: Use at an assay dependent dilution.

Not yet tested in other applications.

Relevance 

A type of white blood cell derived from the thymus. T cells are of key importance to the immune system and are at the core of adaptive immunity, the system that tailors the body's immune response to specific pathogens. T cells do not produce antibodies but do produce a number of substances that regulate the immune response. There are two main subtypes: the CD4+ helper T cells and the CD8+ cytotoxic or suppressor T cells.



This antibody immunoprecipitates a 67kDa protein from thymocytes.
