Application notes

Immunoprecipitation: use at a concentration of 2µg / mg.
Western Blotting: use at a concentration of 1 - 2µg/ml for 2hrs at RT.
Not tested in other applications.

Optimal dilutions / concentrations should be determined by the end user.

By Western blot, this antibody detects a band of 21 kDa, which corresponds to the predicted molecular weight of TIMP-2.

Target

Function

Complexes with metalloproteinases (such as collagenases) and irreversibly inactivates them by binding to their catalytic zinc cofactor. Known to act on MMP-1, MMP-2, MMP-3, MMP-7, MMP-8, MMP-9, MMP-10, MMP-13, MMP-14, MMP-15, MMP-16 and MMP-19.

Sequence similarities

Belongs to the protease inhibitor I35 (TIMP) family.
Contains 1 NTR domain.

Post-translational
modifications

The activity of TIMP2 is dependent on the presence of disulfide bonds.

Cellular localization

Secreted.
