Relevance
|
The modification of proteins with ubiquitin is an important cellular mechanism for targeting abnormal or short-lived proteins for degradation. The attachment of ubiquitin to a substrate protein is catalyzed by three types of enzymes, namely a ubiquitin activating enzyme (E1), a ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme (E2), and a ubiquitin ligase (E3). UBE2D2 is an E2- conjugating enzyme which catalyzes the covalent attachment of ubiquitin to other proteins. UBE2D2 functions in the ubiquitination of the tumor-suppressor protein p53, which is induced by an E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase.
