  • Product nameBAFF protein (Active)See all BAFF proteins and peptides ...
  • Protein descriptionRecombinant full length Human BAFF, amino acids 134-285 (Swiss-Prot Q9Y275).
  • Properties

  • Purity> 95 % by SDS-PAGE
  • Biological activityThe ED50 of ab83938 is typically 5-10 ng/ml as measured by its ability to neutralise dexamethasone toxicity using the RPMI 8226 cell line.
  • FormLyophilised:It is recommended that 0.5 ml of sterile phosphate-buffered saline be added to the vial. Following reconstitution short-term storage at 4°C is recommended, with longer-term storage in aliquots at -18 to -20°C. Repeated freeze thawing is not recommended.
  • Storage instructionsStore at +4°C.This product is an active protein and may elicit a biological response in vivo, handle with caution.
  • Storage bufferPreservative: None
Constituents: 10% Trehalose, 1% Human serum albumin

  • Research Areas
  • Applications

Our Abpromise guarantee covers the use of ab83938 in the following tested applications.

The application notes include recommended starting dilutions; optimal dilutions/concentrations should be determined by the end user.

    Application Notes
    SDS-PAGE
  • Application notesSDS-PAGE: Use at an assay dependent dilution.

ab83938 migrates as a band between 15 and 20 kDa in SDS-PAGE. This compares with the predicted molecular mass of 17 kDa.

Due to post-translational modifications ab83938 separates into a number of glycoforms with a pI between 4.7 and 5.5 on 2D PAGE. This is in agreement with the unmodified BAFF that has a predicted pI of 4.9.

Not yet tested in other applications.
Optimal dilutions/concentrations should be determined by the end user.

  • FunctionCytokine that binds to TNFRSF13B/TACI and TNFRSF17/BCMA. TNFSF13/APRIL binds to the same 2 receptors. Together, they form a 2 ligands -2 receptors pathway involved in the stimulation of B-and T-cell function and the regulation of humoral immunity. A third B-cell specific BAFF-receptor (BAFFR/BR3) promotes the survival of mature B-cells and the B-cell response.
  • Tissue specificityAbundantly expressed in peripheral blood Leukocytes and is specifically expressed in monocytes and macrophages. Also found in the spleen, lymph node, bone marrow, T-cells and dendritic cells. A lower expression seen in placenta, heart, lung, fetal liver, thymus, and pancreas.
  • Sequence similaritiesBelongs to the tumor necrosis factor family.
  • Post-translational

The soluble form derives from the membrane form by proteolytic processing.
    N-glycosylated.

    • Post-translational modifications result in protein heterogeneity. The densitometry scan demonstrates the purified human cell expressed protein exists in multiple glycoforms, which differ according to their level of post-translational modification.

The triangle indicates theoretical pI and MW of the protein.
