Target

  • RelevanceHexon protein is a major coat protein of adenoviruses. Adenoviruses capsids have three principal protein components: the hexon, the penton, and the fiber. Hexon consists of three subunits together forming two major components of different morphological symmetry. A triangular top with three towers of density is superimposed on a more bulky pseudo hexagonal base. The symmetry of the top is in accord with the trimeric nature of hexon, but that of the base derives from the molecular function, which is to provide a densely packed impenetrable protective outer layer for the virion.
  • Cellular localizationMajor coat protein of adenoviruses.
  • Alternative names
    • Hexon protein antibody
    • Late protein 2 antibody
    • PII antibody

Thank you for your enquiry. Ab8249 has not been tested in other applications than ELISA or immunodiffusion I'm afraid. This doesn't mean the antibody doesn't work in WB, but that as we haven't tested this application we cannot garantee it will work. ...

Thank you for your enquiry. The clone 8C4 is adenovirus hexon specific. The antibody is directed against a genus-specific hexon antigen, which is present in all human serotypes. Unfortunately we have not tested recognition of AB5 and AB35.

This antibody recognises an epitope common to all adenoviruses, so will therefore detect adenovirus 5.
