Anti-alpha 1 Fetoprotein antibody (ab8201)

Our customer purchased ab8201 and would like to know the concentration of this antibody.Lot# is GR13480-1.

Thanks for the follow up.. Yeah I have never been able to get this thing to work in the presence of serum.

Do you know what kind of experiments they are?

ANSWER:

I have continued to chase our supplier over the Christmas period for more data about how this antibody has been used in WB on fetal and adult sera. In particular I had requested a protocol on how they prepared the fetal sera. After much chasing I now feel that it is not going to be possible for me to get any more information from them which is unsatisfactory. If you are still having problems getting this product to work as we say it should on the datasheet, I will gladly refund you and ensure that our datasheet is revised accordingly.

Thank you for your reply. I would appreciate any information you can pass on from your supplier, and this is the kind of response your tech support people should have made the first time I inquired about this antibody. I realize that you can`t verify the data that all your suppliers give you, but should you find that their response is inadequate I would expect you to hold them accountable.

I do appreciate the efforts you make to get feedback from users regarding your antibodies. I have not yet been able to verify if this antibody works as expected, neither have I ruled that out.. We`ve had some equipment problems that have led to ambiguous results. I will pass on our experience once we are comfortable with the results.

Just two final comments: 1) I make purchasing decisions based on the product data sheets... If I find that I can`t trust yours as being accurate then I may need to look at using a different supplier. So please make sure they are accurate.

2) "all the information we have is on the datasheet" is seldom the correct answer for a customer service agent to be giving to an inquiry.

At last I have some further information for you regarding the use of ab8201 in WB. The following information comes from the researcher who tested the antibody: "WB from SDS-PAGE (10%, reduced) was made with AFP load 0.5-2.0 ug/band transferred to nitrocellulose membrane 0.45 um via electro blotting. Working anti-AFP concentration used was 1-5 ug/ml (primary antibody)."

With regard to the further points made in your e-mail, we endeavour to get as much information as we possibly can onto the datasheets and are aware that if researchers find that they do not work as we say they should they may go elsewhere next time. Alternatively if they contact us for technical assistance, they will find that we keep to our word and will find a replacement antibody for them or give them a refund. The last thing we want is to say that an antibody is suitable for a researchers application when it is not... that is no way to win loyalty and trust from our customers.
