Target

  • RelevanceatpC belongs to the family of F1-type ATPases, which are also present in bacteria and mitochondria. ATP synthase generates ATP from ADP and inorganic phosphate using energy derived from a trans-thylakoidal electrochemical proton gradient. atpC subunit is the energy transducing subunit of rotor part of ATP synthase and responsible for redox modulations due to two cysteine residues. The Arabidopsis genome encodes two atpC (atp C1/C2) subunits which may be involved in different functions.
