Welcome to the Abcam blog

From Cambridge to 'Japan-Bridge'

Abcam's team in Japan have completed their move to a larger office in the Nihonbashi area of Tokyo. They now have much more room to dedicate to product storage and goods-dispatch, and they can expand their customer service and scientific support teams.

Product dispatch

On an interesting note, Nihonbashi literally means 'Japan-Bridge' (Nihon is Japan and hashi or bashi means bridge). Which means there's a side-benefit of the move: the team in Japan can now join in with the bridge theme of our other offices in Cambridge, UK, and Cambridge, MA, US.

Let me know if there's a Cambridge near you, and maybe we can earmark it for future expansion! Preferably somewhere with lots of sun...

Abcam on the move: on the pitch and in the office

As well as our offices in Cambridge, UK and Cambridge, US, we also have an office in Tokyo, Japan (I don't think we could find another Cambridge!) This allows us to offer customer and scientific support in Japanese, and complements the Japanese-language version of our website: www.abcam.co.jp

It's a good time for me to introduce our team in Japan, because they'll be moving to larger office in the Nihonbashi district of Tokyo next week. This will mean more space for product storage, our goods-dispatch area, and more room to expand the team. The new office will open for business from Thursday May 7th, after the Golden Week holidays.

More details and photos of the new office coming soon!

In the meantime, here is a report from Yuki, on a Futsal tournament the JP office recently entered. She organizes a weekly training session for the futsal team, and has even arranged some foreign transfers... well, staff visiting from the UK and US offices have joined in a few times!

"The tournament was played in Tokyo Dome, home of baseball team Yomiuri Giants, and our first match kicked off at 12.10. We started warming up at about 11.30 and devised a clever strategy of substituting every two or three minutes (ten minute games) and with the goalkeeper playing in goal for the whole match. Results for the four group matches were as follows:

  • Match 1: Abcam vs Kyobashi Tida FC 0-0
  • Match 2: Abcam vs. S.S. Rabbit 0-1
  • Match 3: Abcam vs. team 24 0-1
  • Match 4: Abcam vs. Tensegrity 1-1

We finished seventh out of eight teams in Group B and just missed out on the finals: we needed to finish sixth to qualify!"

And here's the JP futsal team in their Abcam kit!
