Target

  • FunctionDisplays several functions associated with host defense: it promotes agglutination, bacterial capsular swelling, phagocytosis and complement fixation through its calcium-dependent binding to phosphorylcholine. Can interact with DNA and histones and may scavenge nuclear material released from damaged circulating cells.
  • Tissue specificityFound in plasma.
  • Sequence similaritiesBelongs to the pentaxin family.
    Contains 1 pentaxin domain.
  • Cellular localizationSecreted.

  • Calibration curve using ab8277 [C2] (biotinylated) and ab8278 [C6] (labelled with stable Eu3+ chelate) in a sandwich ELISA. Mixture of antibodies and antigen (10 µl sample) were incubated for 10 minutes at R.T. in streptavidin coated plates.

  • Sensitivity to EDTA. Serum samples with (dark blue) and w/o (light blue) Ca2+ ions were tested by two two-site combinations of anti-CRP MAbs. Ab10028 [C4] is sensitive to the conformational changes of CRP molecule and thus the assay gives no signal in the presence of EDTA. Sandwich immunoassay utilizing ab8277 [C2] and ab8278 [C6] recognizes the antigen with the same efficiency in the presence and in the absence of EDTA.
