    The alpha-2/delta subunit of voltage-dependent calcium channels regulates calcium current density and activation/inactivation kinetics of the calcium channel. Plays an important role in excitation-contraction coupling.

    Isoform 1 is expressed in skeletal muscle. Isoform 2 is expressed in the central nervous system. Isoform 2, isoform 4 and isoform 5 are expressed in neuroblastoma cells. Isoform 3, isoform 4 and isoform 5 are expressed in the aorta.

    Calcium channel L type DHPR alpha 2 subunit contains a number of potential glycosylation sites (SwissProt) which may explain its migration at a higher molecular weight than predicted.

    This blot was produced using a 4-12% Bis-tris gel under the MOPS buffer system. The gel was run at 200V for 50 minutes before being transferred onto a Nitrocellulose membrane at 30V for 70 minutes. The membrane was then blocked for an hour using 2% Bovine Serum Albumin before being incubated with ab154161 overnight at 4°C. Antibody binding was detected using an anti-rabbit antibody conjugated to HRP, and visualised using ECL development solution ab133406
