      CaM-kinase II (CAMK2) is a prominent kinase in the central nervous system that may function in long-term potentiation and neurotransmitter release. Member of the NMDAR signaling complex in excitatory synapses, it may regulate NMDAR-dependent potentiation of the AMPAR and synaptic plasticity.

      The multifunctional CaMKII beta, or Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II, is a well known effector of calcium- and calmodulin- mediated functions. It is present in many tissues but is most abundant in the brain. CaMKII is composed of four different chains: alpha, beta, gamma, and delta. The different isoforms assemble into homo- or heteromultimeric holoenzymes composed of 8 to 12 subunits.

    Anti-CaMKII beta antibody images

    • Immunofluorescent staining in the rat hippocampal neurons using ab22131 CAMKIIb antibody. This picture was taken using a 40X objective. The staining is observed in the axons and cell bodies of some hippocampal neurons. NB: apart from the hippocampus, most brain areas did not show any staining in this naïve animal. ab22131 was used at 1/100 incubated for 2 days at room temperature. Secondary antibody used was anti-rabbit Alexa Fluor 488 at 1/1000 incubated for 2 hours at room temperature. Rat brain tissue was perfusion fixed with 4% PFA followed by overnight post-fixation in the same fixative, cryoprotected in 20% sucrose and frozen in OCT. 30µm coronal sections were cut on a cyrostat and immunohistochemistry performed by the 'free floating' technique.
