  • FunctionThiol protease that cleaves IL-1 beta between an Asp and an Ala, releasing the mature cytokine which is involved in a variety of inflammatory processes. Important for defense against pathogens. Cleaves and activates sterol regulatory element binding proteins (SREBPs). Can also promote apoptosis.
  • Tissue specificityExpressed in larger amounts in spleen and lung. Detected in liver, heart, small intestine, colon, thymus, prostate, skeletal muscle, peripheral blood leukocytes, kidney and testis. No expression in the brain.
  • Sequence similaritiesBelongs to the peptidase C14A family.
    Contains 1 CARD domain.
  • Post-translational
The two subunits are derived from the precursor sequence by an autocatalytic mechanism.
  • Cellular localizationCytoplasm.

  • ab1872 staining Caspase-1 in mouse immortalised bone marrow-derived macrophages by ICC/IF (Immunocytochemistry/immunofluorescence). Cells were fixed with paraformaldehyde, permeabilized with Triton X-100 (0.1%) and blocked with 5% serum for 1 hour at 20°C. Samples were incubated with primary antibody (1:200 in PBS + 0.1% BSA/5% goat serum) for 1 hour at 20°C. An anti-rabbit Alexa Fluor®568 (1/500) ab175471) was used as the secondary antibody.

Thank you for this clarification. Our datasheet and tissue specificity is based off of the findings reported in the literature. However, should we find that brain expression becomes reported in the literature we would make an effort to update our records.

Thank you for your reply. I apologize for my error, this is a caspase 1 antibody. The prostate cancer sounds like a good control. We also have lsited placenta. One recommendation might be to switch your blocking agent and increase the time to 2 hours. ...

There is no antibody specific only for the activated form. As the antibody will recognize the same sequence despite whether it is in the pro-form or processed form. Pro-caspase antibodies are specific as the active version will not have the specific p...

I was informed this morning that we do not know what dilution was used when ab1872 was tested in WB as this was reported to work by a customer who didn't specify the dilution which was optimal. I would therefore recommend to try a range of dilutions (...
