FunctionComponent of the CENPA-NAC (nucleosome-associated) complex, a complex that plays a central role in assembly of kinetochore proteins, mitotic progression and chromosome segregation. The CENPA-NAC complex recruits the CENPA-CAD (nucleosome distal) complex and may be involved in incorporation of newly synthesized CENPA into centromeres. CENP-T is one of the basic inner kinetochore proteins with most further proteins binding downstream, suggesting a fundamental role of CENP-T in kinetochore function.
Sequence similaritiesBelongs to the CENPT family.
Post-translational modificationsPhosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR.
Cellular localizationNucleus. Chromosome > centromere > kinetochore. Localizes exclusively in the kinetochore domain of centromeres.

Immunoprecipitation - CENPT antibody (ab86595)
1mg whole cell lysate from Hela cells was immunoprecipited using 10ug ab86594. 20% of IP was loaded per lane, and probed with ab86549 at 1ug/ml (lane 1) or with a control IgG (lane 2).
Detection: hemiluminescence with an exposure time of 30 seconds.
