  • Description
Rabbit polyclonal to Clostridium botulinum A Toxoid
  • SpecificityIn an ELISA testing against toxins A through F this serum reacts primarily with A toxin but does also have some cross reactivity with B toxin. However, type protection in a mouse bioassay is monospecific for the A toxin. In a toxoid ELISA with 1ug toxoid/well the titre of this serum (specific absorbance values >1.5) is well above 16,000. Inhibitory activity in the mouse bioassay is specific for lethal doses of type A toxin at a serum dilution of 1:100.

Target

  • RelevanceClostridium botulinum neurotoxins are zinc-dependent proteases that block the release of acetylcholine from peripheral cholinergic nerve endings by targeting specific membrane proteins including synaptosomal-associated proteins (SNAP), vesicle-associated membrane proteins (VAMP), and syntaxins. Neurotoxin A is characteristically associated with human botulism and known to target and hydrolyse the 197-Gln-|-Arg-198 bond of SNAP-25.

Thank you for your inquiry.

I can confirm that the toxins are produced as binary proteins that possess a heavy chain (approximately 100 kDa) and a light chain (approximately 50 kDa). The heavy chain is a binding component that directs the tox...
