Target

  • FunctionVisual signal transduction is mediated by a G-protein coupled cascade using cGMP as second messenger. This protein can be activated by cyclic GMP which leads to an opening of the cation channel and thereby causing a depolarization of rod photoreceptors.

  • Involvement in diseaseDefects in CNGA1 are the cause of retinitis pigmentosa type 49 (RP49) [MIM:613756]. RP leads to degeneration of retinal photoreceptor cells. Patients typically have night vision blindness and loss of midperipheral visual field. As their condition progresses, they lose their far peripheral visual field and eventually central vision as well.

Anti-CNG1 antibody [CNC 9C1] images

  • Immunofluorescent analysis of CNG1 using Anti-CNG1 Monoclonal Antibody (CNC 9C1) (ab32676) shows staining in U251 Cells. CNG1 staining (green), F-Actin staining with Phalloidin (red) and nuclei with DAPI (blue) is shown. Cells were grown on chamber slides and fixed with formaldehyde prior to staining. Cells were probed without (control) or with or an antibody recognizing CNG1 (ab32676) at a dilution of 1:20 over night at 4oC, washed with PBS and incubated with a DyLight-488 conjugated secondary antibody. Images were taken at 60X magnification.
