  • Description
Rabbit polyclonal to Collagen I + Collagen III
  • SpecificitySpecificity was ascertained by direct ELISA using pure calf collagen types I and III for coating microplate wells. No binding to calf serum proteins is revealed at similar dilutions of the antibody. Characteristic immunostaining pictures of frozen sections of bovine kidney and skin are produced to certify absence of crossreactivity with basement membrane collagens (types IV and V).

  • Species reactivity
    Reacts with: Cow
  • Immunogen

Antibodies to calf collagen type I and III are raised in rabbits which are numerously immunized with extensively purified native collagen type I and III extracted from bovine skin into dilute acidic buffer after mild pepsin digestion.

  • FormLiquid
  • Storage instructionsShipped at 4°C. Store at +4°C short term (1-2 weeks). Upon delivery aliquot. Store at -20°C or -80°C. Avoid freeze / thaw cycle.
  • Storage bufferPreservative: None

  • PurityImmunogen affinity purified
  • Purification notesPooled antisera are passed over DEAE-cellulose to produce IgG-enriched fraction. The affinity purified ab24136 is obtained by binding to immobilized native calf collagen, mixture of type I and III (the antigens used for immunization), followed by elution with acidic buffer, neutralisation, dialysis, dispensing and lyophilization.

  • Target

    • RelevanceCollagen I is a fibrillar collagen found in most connective tissues, and the only component of the collagen found in cartilage. Mutations in this gene are associated with osteogenesis imperfecta, Ehlers Danlos syndrome, and idiopathic osteoporosis. Reciprocal translocations between chromosomes 17 and 22, where this gene and the gene for platelet derived growth factor beta are located, are associated with a particular type of skin tumor called dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, resulting from unregulated expression of the growth factor. Two transcripts, resulting from the use of alternate polyadenylation signals, have been identified for this gene. Collagen III is a fibrillar collagen that is found in extensible connective tissues such as skin, lung, and the vascular system, frequently in association with Collagen I. Mutations in this gene are associated with Ehlers Danlos syndrome type IV, and with aortic and arterial aneurysms. Although alternate transcripts have been detected for this gene, they are the result of mutations; these mutations alter splicing, often leading to the exclusion of multiple exons.
