SpecificityUsing conjugate Salicyclic acid-protein carriers (PC), antibody specificity was performed with an ELISA test by competition experiments with the following compounds:
Compound : cross-reactivity ratio
Salicyclic acid-PC : 1
Acetyl-Salicylic acid-PC : 1
Phenylalanine-PC : 1/>50,000
Benzoic acid-PC : 1/>50,000
Cinnamic acid-PC : 1/>50,000
Coumaric acid-PC : 1/>50,000.
The cross reactivity ratios represent Salicyclic acid-PC concentration/conjugated close structure concentration at half displacement.
The application notes include recommended starting dilutions; optimal dilutions/concentrations should be determined by the end user.
Use at an assay dependent dilution.
RelevanceSalicylic acid is a monohydroxybenzoic acid, a type of phenolic acid and a beta hydroxy acid. It is widely used in organic synthesis and functions as a plant hormone, and is derived from the metabolism of salicin. In addition to being a compound that is chemically similar to but not identical to the active component of aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid), it is probably best known for its use in anti-acne treatments.
