  • Function
    One gap junction consists of a cluster of closely packed pairs of transmembrane channels, the connexons, through which materials of low MW diffuse from one cell to a neighboring cell.
  • Involvement in disease
    Defects in GJA5 are a cause of familial atrial standstill (FAS) [MIM:108770]. Atrial standstill is an extremely rare arrhythmia, characterized by the absence of electrical and mechanical activity in the atria. Electrocardiographically, it is characterized by bradycardia, the absence of P waves, and a junctional narrow complex escape rhythm.

  • Immunohistochemistry (Formalin/PFA-fixed paraffin-embedded sections) analysis of human lung carcinoma tissue labelling Connexin 40 / GJA5 with ab38580. A peroxidase-conjugated anti-rabbit IgG was used as the secondary antibody, followed by DAB staining.

  • ab38580 staining Connexin 40 / GJA5 in Mouse myocyte cell by ICC/IF (Immunocytochemistry/immunofluorescence). Cells were fixed with formaldehyde and blocked with 10% serum for 1 hour at 25°C. Samples were incubated with primary antibody (1/200 in serum) for 18 hours at 4°C. An Alexa Fluor® 594-conjugated Goat anti-rabbit IgG monoclonal (1/1000) was used as the secondary antibody.
