No, Swissprot, EBI's and NCBI's websites are riddled with mistakes and faulty information. So, here's the link you should look at: http://www.chem.qmul.ac.uk/iubmb/misc/trans.html It is IUBMB that has the naming rights to translation factors, no one else. Thank you for your time and letting help you correct other's mistakes. |

Will this antibody recognize the active form of eIF2A? |
|||||||||
ANSWER: |
Ab19288 is specific for the phosphorylated form of eIF-2 alpha. It recognizes an epitope that includes phosphorylated Serine 51. The antibody has been cross adsorbed to remove activity to the non-phosphorylated form. Please contact us again if you have any additional questions.

ANSWER: |
Thank you for your enquiry. Our designation comes directly from Swiss-Prot where the synonyms for the protein are as follows: Eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 alpha subunit eIF-2-alpha EIF-2alpha EIF-2A I believe the datasheet is correct in identifying the protein that the antibody is raised against. I hope this information helps, please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any more advice or information. |

This antibody recognizes phospho S51 eIF2A and the immunogen came from rat. It states that the antibody cross-reacts with human. However, customer says that there is no phospho S51 eIF2A in humans, just phospho S52 eIF2A. Please clarify.

|||||||||
ANSWER: |
The immunogen for this antibody was a synthetic peptide derived from rat S51 eIF-2alpha. Collaborators confirmed the reactivity of this antibody in Western blots with approx. 36 kDa protein corresponding to the predicted molecular weight of eIF-2alpha of other species.
