Target

  • RelevanceThe Early Restricted protein (EA-Restricted p17) of Epstein-Barr Virus (Human herpesvirus 4 (HHV-4)) is encoded by the viral BHFR1 gene. EA-Restricted p17 (EA-R p17) is a 17 kD protein (p17) with protein kinase activity. EA-R p17 is a functional homologue of the anti-apoptotic oncoprotein bcl-2, which is expressed during the switch from latency to lytic replication and may be involved in proliferation of EBV infected cells. However, EA-R p17 does not appear to be essential for virus replication or transformation of B cells in vitro.
