  • RelevanceGamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a major inhibitory neurotransmitter. GABA acts at inhibitory synapses in the brain and spinal cord. Inhibition is provoked by GABA binding resulting in hyperpolarization of the synaptic transmembrane potential of the affected neuron. GABA binding causes ion channels to open allowing either the flow of chloride or potassium ions into or out of the cell.

Anti-GABA antibody [5A9] images

  • ab86186 staining GABA in the Brains of 2-5 days old moths (Manduca) by ICC/IF (Immunocytochemistry/immunofluorescence). The head capsules were fixed with 4% paraformaldehyde, washed in PBS and embedded in Low melting point Agarose and section to 75 μm thickness.Section were blocked with 2% BSA(IgG-free) . Samples were incubated with primary antibody (1/500 in PBS).

    Double labeling against the Ms5HT1A receptor (green) and GABA (magenta) revealed a subset of Ms5HT1A-ir cell bodies co-localizing GABA (arrows). Scale bar = 100 μm.

GABA is a neurotransmitter and species is not applicable for this biochemical. Therefore any anti GABA antibody should work with samples of wide range of species.
