Target

  • Function
    Heme oxygenase cleaves the heme ring at the alpha methene bridge to form biliverdin. Biliverdin is subsequently converted to bilirubin by biliverdin reductase. Under physiological conditions, the activity of heme oxygenase is highest in the spleen, where senescent erythrocytes are sequestrated and destroyed.

Antigen retrieval step:Heat mediated - Buffer/Enzyme Used: Citric acid.Blocking step: 1% BSA for 10 mins at 21°C. Secondary antibody biotin conjugated anti Rabbit IgG (1/200). NB: Positivity appears to be confined to macrophages- the primary antibody was omitted on the sequential section and was negative for macrophages ( to rule out lipofuscin).
