    Acetylation of histones such histone H3 has been involved in the regulation of chromatin structure and the recruitment of transcription factors to gene promoters. HATs (histone acetyltransferases) and HDACs (histone deacetylases) play a critical role in controlling histone H3 actylation. Lysine 23 at histone H3, along with K9,K14 and K18 are primary acetylated sites of histone H3. Histone H3 (acetyl K23) is tightly involved in cell cycle regulation, cell proliferation and apoptosis. It also correlates with transcription activation.
